Freedom should not be something you have to deserve. It’s something you just naturally have Something that no one can take away from you. Let’s celebrate it.

The 75thIndependence Daycelebration was held on 15th August, 2021 in the school premises.

It was celebrated in the presence of the school Correspondent,Very Rev. Fr. Denis D’Sa,Commodore Jerome Castelino - VSM, Ex. Navy was the chief guest and Fr.Steevan Nelson Peris the assistant parish priest of Our Lady of Health church, Shirva was the Guest of Honour.

The schoolprincipal, Miss Myrtle L. F. Lewis, the vice principal,Irine Cardoza, Fr. Rolwyn Joy Aranha the coordinator of the senior secondary section and all the coordinators of various sections and the teaching and non-teaching staff and the school management members were also present for the celebration.

The Rajyapuraskara and the Tritiya Sopana awardee students of the Scouts & Guides were present for the flag hoisting and for receiving there awards. The parishioners also joined the gathering.

The programme began invoking the blessings from God by the school choir.

Fr. Rolwyn Joy Aranha introduced the chief guest and welcomedthe gathering.

The honour of hoisting the tricolour was given to Commdore Jerome Castelino.

In his speech, Commdore Jerome Castelino,the chief guest highlightedthe difference between India and few other countries who got their freedom later than us but are quite ahead of us in making progress.

He exemplified by telling us about the growth of Japan which was destroyed completely due to the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings during the second world war. However, it is now one among the advanced countries.

He highlighted some of the issues that our country is facing like poverty and lack of financial aid reaching to the lower strata of the society and appealed everyone to vote with responsibility so that the development of the nation begins from the grass root level.

He addressed the teachers saying that teaching not just a job, it is a service that brings about the growth and development of the children who are the future citizens.

The school choir intoned the flag song,

The school correspondent Fr. Denis D’Sa in his speech, highlighted the importance of freedom. He said that “Freedom comes with a responsibility, freedom is to save people, serve people love people, respect all religions and cultures.” He concluded with the three T’s are that are missing in today’s scenario which are Truth, Trust and Tolerance, it is point of great concern to every Indian citizen.

Correspondent, Very Rev. Fr. Denis D’Sa handed over a sapling as mementoto Commodore Jerome Castelino, the chief guest as a token of gratitude.

The programme ended with a vote of thanks by Mrs. Nevia D’Costa. Mr. Francis Vaz compered the programme.
