The website ‘www.donboscoschoolshirva.com’ is the mouth-piece of Don Bosco English Medium School, Shirva, inaugurated on 15.4.2017 in order to communicate up-to-date information on the life and activities of the school to the parents, alumni/alumnae and general public. The school has a history of 35 years and is on the threshold of affiliation by the CBSE Board. We fondly hope that the website will serve as a powerful link between the school and all those who are associated with it.

“Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime,” advises a Chinese proverb. Education, being the primary redeeming

factor to our society, aims to draw out the best from the students. With formation of character as the main concern, the school not only informs but also forms and transforms the students into integrated persons and global citizens/leaders. Gandhiji dreamt of an education which would activate the moral, spiritual and physical faculties and enkindle the body, mind, heart and spirit. True education cannot be limited to the books alone but has to cater to the building of relationships among our youth. Personal interaction with the teachers/parents/friends helps the blooming of the personalities of the children. The students of Don Bosco, with ‘ignited minds’ (Dr Abdul Kalam), shall be the ambassadors of peace and harmony in the global village of the day.

May the website continue to serve as a medium of communication between the school and the stakeholders. God bless the school, students, parents, alumni/alumnae and all its well-wishers.

Most Rev. Dr Peter Paul Saldanha

Bishop of Mangalore

Vicar President

Cordial greetings to you and all good wishes in your office of the Principal of the prestigious Don Bosco English Medium School at Shriva.

I thank you for your letter dated 20 September 2017. It gives me great joy to know that a website has been started for your school on 15 April 2017 which was inaugurated during the meeting of Alumni Association. Today more than ever before, the modern mediums of communication have become very essential nay indispensable especially in the educational Institutions as effective tools to put across not only information latest and up-to –date, but also means to further the noble cause of

imparting quality education so that learning becomes easier and power of grasping topics of life oriented subjects and issues also become effective and successful.

Don Bosco English Medium School has a history of 35 Years of existence and now it is on the threshold of securing CBSE affiliation. The growth of the school is not to be measured in terms of number of years it has put in after its establishment but the increase in the number of students who keep on knocking on the doors of this school for education and the way education itself is imparted to them by competent and efficient teachers promoting high standards of learning, discipline and character formation and by providing necessary infrastructural facilities for curricular and extra- curricular activities.

I have no hesitation to say that under your able leadership and guidance from the revered Correspondent V. Rev. Fr Stany Tauro, Don Bosco English Medium School will keep on climbing greater heights to the joy and happiness of the esteemed Staff, students and their anxious parents and not forgetting the people of Shriva. May God bless you all, abundantly.

With every good wish and the assurance of prayers.

Yours fraternally,

Rt. Rev. Msgr Maxim Noronha

I am delighted to learn that a website has been launched exclusively for Don Bosco English Medium School, Shirva. Thank you for your request to send my message for this website. In this tech-savvy world, a dedicated website plays a significant role. We get a mine of information at the click of a button! Today there is nothing that is unavailable or inaccessible to us, thanks to the technological progress. The world has indeed become a global village; we are in a position to get in touch with anyone anywhere in the world without losing any time. The website which you have launched for Don Bosco English Medium School will serve as a source of information for the public and especially for all those who wish to admit their

children/wards to this prestigious institution. The public will surely come to know the vision and mission of the Institution, its core values and the various activities the School will organize to impart holistic education to the students. The information to be made available through this website will surely enlighten and inspire the parents to make the right choice when it comes to choosing the right Institution in which they want their children/wards to study.

Don Bosco English Medium School was started thirty five years ago with a commendable aim in mind namely to impart value-based education to the rural students. The school has grown from strength to strength all these years in spite of the challenges and hurdles. As we remember with gratitude all the Correspondents and the staff for their dedicated service which has facilitated the growth of this great Institution, we recognize the challenge that is before us – to make it a real temple of learning. If all goes well, this school will be upgraded into a CBSE school in the near future. The affiliation team sent by the CBSE Board has certified that the Institution fulfills all the requirements that the Board stipulates. I congratulate you, the local Correspondent, the staff, the members of the Parents Teachers Association for the interest they have evinced in the growth and development of this Institution. May God bless our efforts to impart value-based education that will humanize, liberate and transform youngsters into persons of character, competence, conscience, compassion and commitment(from the vision statement).

“Education is a shared commitment between dedicated teachers, motivated students and enthusiastic parents with high expectations” It is hard to believe that it was 3-years ago when we commenced with CBSE Curriculum; the impressions were that it’s going to be a challenging job but by ceaseless efforts and rigorous work of its stakeholders made it possible to reach the destiny. As I reflect, I am so grateful for being given the opportunity to lead a school where the students, staff, and school community are such a vibrant and vital part of our success. We have much to be proud of and celebrate and yet I know that our job is never done. We are always on a continuous cycle of improvement.

Today, the role of a school is not only to pursue academic excellence but also to motivate and empower its students to be lifelong learners, critical thinkers, and productive members of an ever-changing global society. More than three decade back Don Bosco English Medium School pledged to transform education. The school that is being run under the aegis of well established Management “Catholic Board of Education” has earned its own niche not only in Shirva but across the globe. At DBEMS we provide an atmosphere to our students for multifaceted development, where children are encouraged to channelize their potential in the pursuit of excellence. This can only be possible in a holistic, student-centric environment. The talents, skills, and abilities of each student need to be identified, nurtured, and encouraged so that he/she is able to reach greater heights. Students need to be provided with a platform to think, express, and exhibit their skills. It is necessary to empower them to negotiate several issues that confront them, with the teacher being a facilitator.

The school is striving hard to make the best possible efforts to inculcate strong values combining with academics and extra-curricular activities in the children. Converting every individual into a self-reliant and independent citizen, the school provides an amalgam of scholastic and co-scholastic activities.

No wonder, a student harnessed in such an atmosphere has every hope and possibility of becoming a responsible, balanced and a mature adult and is able to live in to contribute and to shoulder responsibilities of the society, of which he forms an integral part. Children need a supportive environment at home and at school. They need to set goals, within their reach until they gain confidence and determination. They should reexamine their priorities, set clean goals and make specific plans to achieve what they desire. Focusing on specific goals, helps them move forward purposefully in life. They would, thus, have the pleasure of watching their dreams into reality.

At DBEMS our approaches to learning is child centric encouraging activity based on learning and inculcating a scientific temper and a spirit of free enquiry. In our curriculum the student is the primary focus and each child is involved in the learning process. We are constantly improving our teaching methodology so that it turns learning into combination of classroom study, research and scientific discovery. While academic excellence is our major thrust, the school is also devoted to prepare the students for life, groom them to face the challenges of tomorrow, and encourage them to be socially relevant. We constantly Endeavour to always live up to this ideology and inculcate this into everything we do, with the aim that we will be able to ensure that the children grow to their full potential, while constantly being groomed to pass out as men and women competent to bear responsibility in all walks of life.

The parents are the most strengthening power in moulding the future of children. Their consistent support empowers us to do more and more. I pay my gratitude to them for their faith in us.

I am confident enough that the Don Bosconians will make themselves stronger day by day, adding a new leaf to the grandeur of the school.
